Hey Folks,
A personal good-news item that might be of some interest:
My wife and I have been married for almost 34 years. When we married, I brought three children to the mix and she brought one. We never used or allowed the term step-anything (son or daughter, brother or sister). We saw no reason to differentiate among the children. After all, the situation was no fault of theirs.
For various reasons, I was never able to adopt our eldest son, who was originally named Jason Griffith Smith. Also, Jason’s maternal grandfather passed away a few years ago, and he was the last of the Griffith line.
Yesterday, I was suddenly made very glad that I had never adopted Jason. On his own and with our blessing, he changed his name, legally, to Jason Stanbrough Griffith.
In one masterful stroke, he both honored his dad’s (my) last name and is now able to continue his grandfather’s line.
As you might imagine, given the tragedy that occurred for our family only a few days ago, this rebirth of sorts was a refreshing lift to our spirits.

To the Hovel and the novel at around 9:15. Just under 1000 words in the first session, then a break to check on the babies.
Back to the Hovel later, and ended up with a pretty good day of writing.
I’m probably not going to work on Autobiography or the short story for awhile, so I’ve dropped them from the daily count below.
