My Quote of the Day

“The story—any story—isn’t about an event. The story is about how the characters react to an event.”

Adios to Chopped Livah

Just a heads-up: Be sure to catch the final issue of Chopped Livah on Sunday, October 11, at 8 a.m.

The topic is a 4,000 word deep dive on “How to Show (Enable the Reader to Experience) the POV Character’s Anxiety,” complete with a detailed example. I opened the post up so everyone could read it.

Chopped Livah was an enjoyable experiment, but it isn’t working out.

Here’s the admin note I added to the bottom of that issue:

Unfortunately, Chopped Livah hasn’t had quite the impact I expected, so I’m going to cut my losses and shut it down. I hoped it would be an interactive mentorship, but as it turns out it’s only another newsletter.

Frankly, prepping a Chopped Livah post is a lot of work. Without the back-and-forth of student participation via comments and questions, it isn’t worth my time.

If there’s anything you’d like to save for your own benefit from the few issues I posted, you have my permission to copy/paste them into a Word document and save them on your computer. This publication will disappear soon.

Of course, I’ll be addressing some of the topics I’d planned for Chopped Livah in upcoming issues of TNDJ as either longer posts or series.

To the few who entered a paid subscription to Chopped Livah: Thank You. I don’t know how to refund your subscription through Stripe. Please email me at harveystanbrough@gmail.com and I’ll refund your paid subscription via PayPal.
