Quote of the Day
“I am careful not to confuse excellence with perfection. Excellence, I can reach for; perfection is God’s business.” Michael J. Fox
The Bradbury Challenge
During the past week, in addition to whatever other fiction they’re writing, the following writers reported these new stories:
- Loyd Jenkins “The Long Walk of Deck Nine” 4600 Space Western
- Vanessa V. Kilmer “Gold-Tipped Feathers” 2999 Mystery
- Christopher Ridge “Whiplash” 1487 thriller
- Christopher Ridge “This is a Terrible Story” 1253 experimental
- Dave Taylor “The Traveler” 5,540 Magic Realism
Congratulations to these writers.
A New TNDJ Bonus for the TRUE PULP Kickstarter
It’s early in the TRUE PULP Kickstarter campaign—still 38 days to go—but I’d really like to see us exceed the first stretch goal in the next few days.
So I’ve come up with a new bonus.
Contribute $10 (or $10 more if you’ve already contributed) to the TRUE PULP Kickstarter and I’ll email you my pulp-noir 10-story collection Mobster Tales free in .pdf, .mobi, and .epub.
Here’s the description of Mobster Tales:
This 10-story collection runs the gamut from the hokey to the humorous, the wannabes to the would’a-beens, the chilling to the childish to the deadly serious. There are 8 stories from Harvey and 2 from his borderline psychotic persona, Eric Stringer. Come along for some fun.
Sorry, this offer is not retroactive since we’re reaching for the first stretch goal.
But you CAN combine this offer with my previous offer and receive the Mobster Tales collection in addition to the books I offered here.
This is a lot of great reading and learning for a relative pittance, folks. Don’t miss out. Support the TRUE PULP Kickstarter today!
Of course in addition to my collection, for your $10 contribution when the Kickstarter ends you’ll also get the TRUE PULP anthology itself, complete with its Kickstarter-only cover.
And if we reach the first stretch goal, everyone who’s contributed at least $20 will get 5 bonus novels from 5 of the authors included in the anthology.
And if we reach the second stretch goal, anyone who’s contributed at least $20 will receive SEVEN MORE bonus mysteries in my very own One-Off Mysteries Omnibus Collection!
Why do I keep coming up with new offers?
Because I’m extremely grateful. And stoked! From what I can tell, my own relatively small, motley crew of followers are Showing the Hell Up and supporting the Kickstarter in greater numbers. (grin) Great job, team! So I figure let’s keep it going!
And my sincere thanks to everyone who’s backed the TRUE PULP Kickstarter!
The Writing
I believe the novel will wrap today.
If so, it will be only 13 writing days, but 17 calendar days, the longest in a good while. For various reasons, I missed writing on four days.
Yesterday I wrote nothing in fiction because I was toast. (grin) I took off work early, took a 3 hour nap in my recliner, woke up for about an hour, then watched an hour or two of TV, then sacked out and slept 8 more hours away.

Whatever you believe, unreasoning fear and the myths that outlining, revising, and rewriting will make your work better are lies. They will always slow your progress as a writer or stop you cold. I will never teach the myths on this blog.
Writing fiction should never be something that stresses you out. It should be fun. On this blog I teach Writing Into the Dark and adherence to Heinlein’s Rules. Because of WITD and because I endeavor to follow those Rules I am a prolific professional fiction writer. You can be too.
