The Journal, Saturday, 10/14

Hey Folks, Just want to take a minute to say thanks for hanging in with me. When you write a daily blog like this, and especially when you’re determined to share the less-than-good along with the good, you’re going to have some off days. I’m kind of proud of what I’ve done here for the past two-plus years. I’ve written every single day, even when that writing was only in this Journal. Thus far, I’ve written one novel every month for this calendar year. (It isn’t lost on me that when I get back to writing on Monday, I’ll have … Read more

The Journal, Friday, 10/13

Hey Folks, Okay, I’m never again doing anything that’s personal-world earth-shattering while I’m in the middle of writing a novel. Losing a bunch of days to a magical, mysterious haze while writing a novel is not a good thing. A lot of the haze is gone this morning. So my thought that the primary part of the trial would take three days seems to have held up. However, I’m still a bit foggy headed, and it comes and goes. Another son and his family are coming to visit this weekend. They’ll arrive later today and stay through Sunday morning. So … Read more

The Journal, Wednesday, 10/11

Hey Folks, Well, my subconscious is out wandering around the universe on its own, chasing shiny objects and worrying about absolutely nothing. I hope it’s having fun. I got through the first full day without nicotine. Today is day two. From here on out, it’s just a matter of will power. Well, that and fear. I am a recovering addict. At the moment, I’m going through the rough part, although that will end soon. But if I take even one more hit of my drug of choice, I’ll have to go through the rough part all over again. Remembering that … Read more

The Journal, Tuesday, 10/10

Hey Folks, Well, I kind’a held off posting the Jurnal just in case, but today is a nonwriting day. My brain’s too fuzzy. (grin) Might be this way tomorrow too. We’ll see. I’m putting this up only to keep the blog streak going. Thanks to those who forwarded their good wishes re shedding the nicotine habit. At present I’m wishing I’d never started again. But it’ll all be fine in a couple more days. Then I can get back to things that really matter. Back tomorrow. Of Interest Nothing really of interest that I saw online today. Fiction Words: XXXX … Read more

The Journal, Sunday, 10/8

Hey Folks, Not a lot to see here today. I thought I might return to the story today, but I’m not going to. It’s been a tiring and emotional day, just family stuff. Two big-deal (to me) baseball games coming on, so I’m gonna watch those. Back tomorrow. Of Interest See Dean’s “Anthology Workshop Surprise” at https://www.deanwesleysmith.com/anthology-workshop-surprise/. If you write short fiction, you could potentially earn enough from sales to editors at this workshop to make back your investment. Just sayin’. Fiction Words: XXXX Nonfiction Words: 100 (Journal) So total words for the day: 100 Writing of Pulp Novel 5 … Read more

The Journal, Saturday, 10/7

Hey Folks, Well, it’s Saturday. A very short post today, maybe making up for the longer ones recently. Today was to be my first day as a nonsmoker (leaving cigars behind) but I thought that might not be fair to my visiting grandchildren. (grin) So I’ll make a trip later to Tombstone or Sierra Vista to buy enough sticks to get me through the weekend. I’m looking forward to leaving the habit behind me. Ah, after the sun came up, I found out my son and one adult grandson are here, but the little ones aren’t. So maybe I’ll buy … Read more

The Journal, Saturday, 9/30

Hey Folks, Rolled out slightly after 3 this morning and went straight to email and then Facebook. As a result of one article in one of the several e-newsletters I receive each morning, I found a topic. My reading and then writing the topic below formed the start for the day. We have a trip planned to Sierra Vista a little later this morning. Between now and then, I hope to write a bit of fiction. Topic: Try And vs. Try To First, a disclaimer — When people are speaking in real life (or characters in dialogue in a fiction) … Read more

The Journal, Friday, 9/29

Hey Folks, Looks like I updated my website to include a page dedicated to bundles just in time. A new bundle started today. I only have a short story in this one but still. (grin) Well, I signed up this morning to support the restart of Pulphouse Fiction Magazine. There are some really cool “rewards” for pledging to the Kickstarter campaign. I won’t tell you which one I pledged, but I do encourage you to at least go take a look at the various offerings. You can find those at https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/403649867/pulphouse-fiction-magazine. *** On a day when I could as easily … Read more

The Journal, Thursday, 9/21

Hey Folks, Up a little late this morning. I’ll work on the edit for awhile, then on the yard for awhile, then maybe go play with the novel. Edited ’til about 8:20, then mowed the front (north) yard and around the north and east sides outside the fence. Back to the edit a little after 9 while I’m cooling down from doing actual work. (grin) Also running a couple loads of laundry. Worked on the edit until 10, and now off to fold laundry and put another load in the dryer. While that was working, I mowed a little more, … Read more

The Journal, Sunday, 9/10

Hey Folks, Rolled out late again this morning. That’s all right. Had an urge to write something different, so I started another story. Then I got stuck. Then I sat back and thought about that. It’s been happening a lot over the past couple of months. Then I realized what’s going on and wrote the topic below. TOPIC: Introspection Recently, privately, a friend applauded me for sharing the down sides as well as the up. Possibly he didn’t realize he was only encouraging me. (grin) I find myself in a ridiculous predicament, though “predicament” is too strong a word. Besides, … Read more
