Quote of the Day
“Democracy is not sustained by elections, slogans, and winning the next round. It depends on our own individual insight, research, and serious participation. More importantly, it depends on moral habits such as self-restraint, association, faith, and, most importantly, a sense that we owe something to people other than ourselves.” from the Abstract Truth Substack (see the last item in Of Interest)
Election Day 2026
If you haven’t already, please vote today.
As the author of “Democracy is not a Team Sport” (Of Interest) subtitled his article, “Blind Loyalty is not an American Virtue.”
As a writer, you are unique. You of all people shouldn’t accept being told what to think. You don’t have to be part of a mindless mob.
Instead of voting either color block (e.g., “all blue” or “all red”), I urge you to do what you do best: exercise your mind and vote for whichever candidate(s) will best serve the good of your city, county or parish, state, and country. Comparatively, of course.
Before you even compare one candidate with another, compare each candidates own words with his or her own actions.
That very process is why today I will cast a vote for the other party’s candidate for governor of my state.
Despite advances in AI, at this time in our history, every candidate is still human, which of course means that no candidate is perfect.
Please vote accordingly, not only for your own personal interests and irons in the fire but for the greater good.
Space or SciFi Buff?
Here’s your chance to travel to Titan. Kind of a form of immortality.
NASA wants to include your name in its mission to Saturn’s moon.
I signed up. You even get a pretty neat “boarding pass.”
The brief experience of signing up was refreshing. They didn’t even ask my race, gender, or political preferences. Hey, I’m totally onboard with that.
