The Journal: Quanta Magazine

In today’s Journal

* Quanta Magazine
* Of Interest
* The Numbers

Not a lot to talk about today, but I wanted to get the “Of Interest” items out to you.

But before I do that, I strongly recommend a free subscription to Quanta Magazine’s free newsletter. Did I mention it’s free?

To find the subscription form, click the link to the first article in “Of Interest.” Then click the small menu icon to the right of the search icon in the upper right corner. When the new page loads, enter your email address under Newsletter on the right and click Subscribe.

(By the way, it’s FREE.)

Quanta has articles on Physics, Mathematics, Biology, and Computer Science, as well as categories for “All Articles” and “All Topics.” This magazine is invaluable for all writers, but especially for SF and Fantasy writers.

But even if you aren’t a SF or Fantasy writer, knowledge is knowledge, am I right?

The place is chock full of story ideas and story segments. All you have to do is extrapolate a little, or write what you find (albeit in your own words) if you’re working on a present-day or near-future story.

Quanta also hosts the Abstractions Blog at https://www.quantamagazine.org/abstractions/. And yes, it’s also free.

Talk with you later.

Of Interest

See “The Most Famous Paradox in Physics Nears Its End” at https://www.quantamagazine.org/the-black-hole-information-paradox-comes-to-an-end-20201029/.

See “Little Free Library Launches Read in Color Diversity Initiative” at https://www.thepassivevoice.com/little-free-library-launches-read-in-color-diversity-initiative/. Frankly, re the OP, I’m sad to note that the Little Free Library apparently has been politicized by the folks who started it.

See “Some Fun Thoughts…” at https://www.deanwesleysmith.com/some-fun-thoughts/.

See “The History and Psychology of Clowns Being Scary” at https://www.smithsonianmag.com/arts-culture/the-history-and-psychology-of-clowns-being-scary-20394516/. I’m personally fine with most clowns, but that Burger King guy freaks me right the hell out. I’ve had nightmares that feature that guy. If the government ever opens hunting seasons on clowns, Burger King’s gonna need a new mascot.

See “Debating the Electoral College” at https://getpocket.com/explore/item/debating-the-electoral-college. Story ideas abound.

See “NaNoWriMo: Last Minute Advice” at https://kobowritinglife.com/2020/10/29/nanowrimo-last-minute-advice/. Offered without comment, except please be very careful of what advice you take about writing.
