The Journal, Sunday, December 9

Hey Folks,

YAY! (grin) Reading “Of Interest” items can be SO valuable in SO many ways!

In reading The Passive Guy’s recent post about troubles with his website, I stumbled across a post that mentions a new WordPress plugin called “Classic Editor,” which apparently enables WordPress users to go back to posting without those ugly, time-consuming “blocks” (Gutenberg).

I also found “Disable Gutenberg.” I installed that one. Then I clicked Add a New Post and voila! my old posting screen was restored in full. I can’t say enough what wonderful news this is.

If you like “blocks” for some things (pages, for example, or posts) that’s fine. You can disable what you don’t want Gutenberg to affect. Or you can disable it entirely.

Happy blogging!

Not sure how I missed this a few days ago. Sometime or other, please revisit Dean’s “Stay Away from Traditional Book Publishing” and read the comments. You can find them at https://www.deanwesleysmith.com/stay-away-from-traditional-book-publishing/.

In other news, I’m understanding more and more the point Dean made to me long ago: Paraphrased, he wrote, “If you try to convince most writers to abandon the search for an agent and actually BE a writer, you’re spinning your wheels. It’s a complete waste of time.”

I posted that as probably the final comment at the above link. I also mentioned the (almost) daily Journal, that it’s mostly an over-the-back-fence chat with friends.

All of that to say I’m glad you’re out there, you who read this stuff. Thanks for being there.

A few days ago, I mentioned a guy (Paul McCarthy) who did a YouTube video about “prolific” writers and the comment I left below the video.

Mr. McCarthy responded to my comment, placed me in the “prolific” column (despite my concerns that in reality I’m a slacker) and asked my advice about productivity for a friend.

Natch, I filled him in, albeit very briefly because I remembered the note Dean sent me a few years back. (grin) But I still hope the guy takes my advice.

I probably won’t get a lot of writing done today, if any. My two sisters-in-law are visiting and they’re a lot of fun. And I figure since I’ve officially been labeled “prolific” now (grin) it won’t kill me to enjoy the time with them and miss one day of writing.

Talk with you again soon.
