Quotes of the Day

“[T]he fun is that you can do anything you want because no one cares and it’s just fun and entertainment. The writers who really, really embrace that are often the most successful because not only do they not know where they are going (or care), their readers don’t know and love the ride.” Dean Wesley Smith in a comment to another writer

“[F]ear does kill fun. No doubt about that, except on roller coasters, when the fear is part of the thrill. I sort of like that thrill when I have written myself into a corner, no hope of finding a way out, yet I just keep typing, hold on tight, and my creative voice knows the way just fine. Fear is a thrill then and fun.” Dean Wesley Smith

“When I write, I remind myself…just tell the story. It doesn’t have to be perfect. It doesn’t have to be a best seller. It just has to be a story I would enjoy hearing or reading. When I get overwhelmed with life stuff, I go write a short fairytale. Anything can happen in a fairytale, and I know I’ll have fun!” prolific writer Lorri Moultonhttps://lavenderlassbooks.com/

Thanks to Theron Mathis for recommending Nicholas Kotar as a prolific author of interest. If you’re interested in all things Slavic, you might want to visit the site.

If you know of any long-term professional writers who have cleared out at least most of the myths and who post blogs with some regularity on anything other than his or her own work (releases, etc.), please email me with the URL.

Basically I’m looking for other writers who have cleared out the myths and do what DWS and I do. Even if they don’t post all that often. For example, I still check JA Konrath’s blog almost every day though his last post way way back in July (“Six Things Writers Need To Stop Worrying About”).

So if you know anyone who fits that bill, please email me at harveystanbrough@gmail.com. Remember, I’m still learning too. (grin)

And if you know of any short-term writers who are serious about learning the craft, please share with them my URLs. (grin) If reading my posts has done your writing some good, please share.

Today I added a little over 3000 words to the WIP. It still wants to be a novel. I’m going to let it run and see where it goes. (I’m not going to interrupt it to write a short story for this week until Saturday morning at the latest.) With any luck, a short story will present itself as part of the novel.

If that happens, both will appear below and the short story will count toward my weekly goal. If the short story is also part of the novel, though, the short story words won’t count against my annual totals. In other words, I won’t count words twice (duh).

Talk with you again soon.
