Quote of the Day

“In Deep POV, you’re writing AS the [POV] character instead of about them. The reader experiences the story as the character experiences the story to create an immersive effect. The reader can only know what the point of view character knows, sees, hears, intuits, learns, etc. Every word written comes from the POV character’s perspective.” Lisa Hall-Wilson

Um, yeah. As I wrote in the Journal yesterday, “Deep POV” is just a new name for understanding the craft of good storytelling.

And from what I could find on Amazon and her website, Ms. Hall-Wilson has written one novel. Otherwise she writes “how to write fiction” books. So take that for what it’s worth.

So although she got some of the information in her blog post (see yesterday’s “Of Interest”) right, I don’t really recommend Lisa Hall-Wilson as a source of valid writing instruction. I suggest you stick with the Dave Farlands and Kristine Kathryn Ruschs and Dean Wesley Smiths of the world.

In the first item in today’s “Of Interest” I’ve listed probably the most important link I’ve ever listed with regard to marketing as an indie publisher. Please, please do yourself a massive favor and click through on that link.

Garry Rodgers, a retired RCMP detective and coroner and forensic examiner, wrote the article and included several more links to help you learn about marketing on Amazon, the gorilla of indie publishing.

I also recommend subscribing to Garry’s Dying Words blog at http://dyingwords.net/.

Talk with you again when I can.
