The Journal, Friday, November 2

Hey Folks,

There I was yesterday, writing my poor little fingers down to a nub, practically flying over the keys.

I had a deadline. I had to stop typing in time to get a shower and get ready to go to the doc appointment. Dang!

I finally stopped at noonish. Raced up to the house, jumped in the shower, got dried and dressed. Even put stuff on my hair so it’ll stop sticking up like that on a two-month old bear cub.

Got back in the house office and saw I had a little time, so I filed yesterday’s edition of the Journal.

Then I emailed my wife to let her know I’d be ready. She gets off work at noonish on Thursday. She was going to come home, pick me up, then take me to the doctor appointment.

She emailed back to say the doc had an emergency and had to return to Tucson. He rescheduled the appointment to mid-December.

Well rats. I wasted a perfectly good shower. Not to mention, how many more words would I have knocked out yesterday?

But today’s here now, so….

I’m including a post from Dean this morning. He makes a valid point.

However, I went back to read the comments he referenced in the post, and frankly I think he misunderstood the intent of the commenters. So although I believe the “sacred cow” he mentions is valid (that having fun writing automatically equals bad writing), I believe his premise in this instance is misguided.

I consider Dean a friend (a term I don’t use lightly) though I haven’t seen him in a couple of decades. He has done things for me that only a friend would do. From that perspective, I can only say I hope he’s all right, that some damn age-related disease isn’t sneaking up on him.

So if you read his post, please take his personal comments with a kindly grain of salt.

I rolled out at 2:30 and actually got out to the Hovel before even my little girl got up this morning, around 3:15. I used the quiet time to create a reverse outline for Nick 4 — those really are invaluable — and to write the stuff above. That ate up an hour. Then back to the house for a bit.

Despite my early venture to the Hovel, I didn’t get started with writing until around 7. Still ended up with a pretty good day.

Talk with you again soon.
