The Journal, Friday, November 23

Hey Folks,

Another short day, probably. No worries.

I was in the Hovel by 3, though after the gorging yesterday around noon, I wasn’t in much of a mood to do anything productive. (grin)

But I do mean “gorge,” at least for me. We ate Thanksgiving dinner around noon yesterday, and after that had a couple of hours to settle over some TV. (I still can’t get back into the NFL after all the flap, so that was off the table.)

We watched a few episodes of a Brit mystery/comedy, and then I got up to get dessert. Understand, as part of the dinner, I’d already had homemade yams covered with a layer of small marshmallows, prepared by my own wife’s sweet hands of baked sweet potatoes.

But dessert — we’d forgotten to lay out the cranberry sauce (also home made) and the pumpkin pie and the lemon pudding with vanilla cookies soaking in the bottom of the dish.

So I collected all the necessary things on a small dinner plate. I cut a generous slice of pumpkin pie, then added a large spoonful of the aforementioned yams to one side and lemon pudding to the other.

I hefted a spoonful of cranberry sauce on top of the pumpkin pie, then covered the whole thing — and I mean all of it — with Reddi Whip, the stuff in the can.

Of course, the Reddi Whip was the low-calorie version (I bought it). Which makes about as much sense as ordering a double-double cheeseburger with a large order of fries and then a diet soda to wash it all down. But I digress.

At any rate, being the accomplished individual I am and in line with my personal philosophy of hating the idea of possibly being labeled a quitter, over the next hour or so I downed the whole thing. Nom nom nom. As Andy Griffith would say, It was gooo-oood. (grin)

And surprise! My stomach didn’t give me any trouble at all, all night long. Of course, it was probably busy digesting the two Pepcid pills and the four or six (I forget) Tums I sent it as a peace offering.

And here I sit, tapping at my little keyboard, making stuff up. Is this a wonderful country, or what?
***

After all of that, I won’t bore you with details of my various trips to the Hovel. The numbers will speak for themselves if I write anything today.

Well, I wrote for awhile and ended up with just over 2400 words.

Talk with you again soon.
