The Journal, Sunday, February 25

Hey Folks,

Well, I basically took a day off yesterday. There really was nothing to report, and not even anything to shove into the “Of Interest” section.

Today’s a little different, but only a little, at least thus far. Good stuff in “Of Interest.”

I’m a little mired, but in a kind of good way. I have at least two fresh novels I could be writing — one SF and one probably Mystery — but a new genre in which I want to write keeps sticking in my mind.

Only thing is, I’m not quite ready yet to write in that genre, and I won’t be ready until I’ve read a bit more by masters in the field. So I’ve been reading a lot.

I know, in theory, I should be able to write in one genre while reading in another, say a few hours per day doing each.

But I guess I’m not wired that way. When I get hold of something I’m like that dog with a bone. I just wanna keep gnawing at it until I’m finished, then move on to whatever else. So I might actually be at the beginning of another hiatus.

I don’t really think so, though. Tossed into the same broiling pot is the notion that I like to finish what I start. Also, both the novels I mentioned above have been tugging on me lately, one a little more strongly than the other.

So more than likely I’ll go back to work soon on one of those. Knowing me, I’ll go head-down-butt-in-the-air until I’m finished with it.

Who knows? Not me. We’ll see what happens.

Okay, as the day “ended” at around 4:30 I realized I’d just finished reading the 8th thriller novel in about two weeks.

With an expansive Lee Child collection making its way to me from Texas, apparently via one-legged burro, it will be awhile before I can read anymore, so I hope to get back to writing tomorrow.

See you then.
