The Journal, Sunday, October 21

Hey Folks,

Well, given the time and a little attention to the WIP, the story will end today. I’m not looking forward to it.

In my endeavor to write fiction every day (and it always has to be “honest” fiction, meaning I intend to publish it), I already have a vague story idea for a short story or novella.

A wise guy on a camping trip.Eh? Eh? Or something like that. How would a guy born and raised into a very different lifestyle in Brooklyn react to wide-open spaces, and overnight no less?

If you’ve ever been way out in the boonies on an overnight camping trip, you know everything seems both bigger and more expansive and more tightly closed-in at night.

Out There is the entire world — the entire universe — expanding forever into… well, Forever. Yet you’re also in your own minuscule bubble, hemmed in on all sides by a void where even air might not exist.

So in that way it’s a good experience for both the extrovert and the introvert. Though the latter might get a little rattled at some of the sounds that filter in from outside the aforementioned bubble. (grin)

So I wondered, how might that Brooklyn guy react to that environment? Of course, he would have to react according to his ingrained psyche, and I love writing that stuff. Should be fun.

Wow. The novel’s really flying along.

I went to the Hovel around 7 and knocked out a little over 1000 words. Then I took a break to see how everyone’s doing up at the house.

That lasted for about a half-hour. Then I headed back to the Hovel and the novel. Knocked out the rest of today’s effort in a little more than a half-hour, and I’m gonna call it a day.

There are probably four or five thousand words left to the end (the story took a twist) so I’ll probably finish it tomorrow.

Talk with you again soon.
