Another day of editing today, and then probably on through the weekend. Then I should have two more edits coming in before too long. It’s that time of year. But I hope to get back to my own writing for awhile in between them.
On advice of a knowledgeable friend, I heavily sanitized my post from July 9 and, to a lesser degree, my spoof post from July 10. Seems even when you tell the truth and use quotes from a scam perpetrator’s actual website, you can still be sued.
And frankly, I can’t afford either the time or the money even for a losing lawsuit. I don’t think I’d lose, but I don’t even care to win. I just want people like that to go away.
Which of course, they won’t as long as writers keep defending them and throwing money at them. Sigh.
So you’re kind of on your own here. Please protect yourself, folks. Just try to bear in mind that old saying: What looks too good to be true usually is. And if it looks like a scam and sounds (or reads) like a scam, it probably is.
