The Journal, Thursday, June 7

Hey Folks,

Well, it’s Thursday. That means I have a half-day. My wife and I decided we’d take one day off per week from walking, and we decided Thursday would be that day.

That way I can start writing early and go straight through (with short breaks) instead of using an hour of that time for a walk.

Still adjusting my way of doing things. I was determined to get up early this morning. But with the sun coming up earlier and going down later, it’s more difficult to go to bed earlier.

And since we got rid of DirecTV and picked up Netflix and Amazon Prime, we can cherry pick quality television shows to watch in the early evening.

Frankly, I think I’d be fine without TV at all. But especially on days when my wife works, that’s how we relax into our down time. So….

Today is our day off from walking. I rolled out just before 4, got all the preliminary stuff (Internet and the Journal) done by around 6:30.

So I’m going to try another experiment. I’m going to go into my office, shut the door most of the way and get back to the novel.

In my office, there are two desks. This “business” computer sits on my main desk. My writing ‘puter sits on a smaller desk on the opposite wall.

Later, when the day heats up, I’ll take the writing ‘puter back to the Hovel and write out there for awhile. This should add almost 2 hours to my available writing time.

We’ll see.

Well, things happen. I got busy with other things and blew off my “new time.” That’s all right. It takes time to work into a new routine. I ended up getting to the novel finally at almost 10 a.m.

I typed about a hundred new words, then hit a wall. So I cycled back, all the way to the beginning, and started reading through.

Up to speed again. Wrote around a thousand words before my wife got home at around 1:30. Then around 3 she went in for a nap, so I snuck back out to the Hovel and exited an hour later with a total of around 2400 words. All in all, a good day, especially given the slow start. (grin)

Back tomorrow.
