The Journal, Tuesday, September 4

Hey Folks,

Ugh. I rolled out way late this morning at 4:30, so I’m still sluggish as I write this.

For anyone out there who still thinks writing is “hard work” (and if you have or want a Facebook account), drop by and spend about 6 minutes watching two guys build a swimming pool with only what they found on-site. It’s wonderful and inspiring: https://www.facebook.com/TRNDVideos/videos/1572658269504526/?t=0.

I will add that they couldn’t do that here. Our “dirt” is rock and clay and mesquite root, three of the more resistant substances known to man. Still, what they did was one hell of an accomplishment.

I got very little done over the entire three-day weekend that had anything even peripherally to do with writing. I downloaded a few potential cover pics. That’s pretty much it. Oh, and came up with a few story ideas based on titles that came to me along with a few of the cover pics. (I reported all of this over the past few days.)

The rest of the weekend I rested, watched baseball, watched old episodes of Star Trek: The Next Generation or The Andy Griffith Show, went shopping for food, etc. Just normal stuff.

I planned to write today. I’m jonesing to get back to it. Not because I’m “a writer” but because I love racing through a story with my characters.

But I still have novels and short stories to publish (again, reported earlier). The writing’s the thing, and at least at the moment, publishing isn’t as important to me as writing. Shrug. It just isn’t.

But that isn’t fair to my donors.

I have some donors who’ve been waiting more than patiently. So I published the novels and short stories today, in a way, albeit in PDF and without covers.

I finished a few meticulous revisions to Nick 1 and 2, then added front and back matter to those. Then I did the same to the other “novel.” I put “novel” in quotation marks because I’m not happy with it as a novel. It’s more of a short story collection with a little insight into my personal (camping) life wrapped around the stories.

Anyway, once I got that done, I shipped those out to my donors. So for the time being, I’m caught up. (grin) And when I get around to creating covers and distributing them more widely, that’s fine.

So that was my day today.

Tomorrow, I’ll start a story based on one of the covers I downloaded or maybe I’ll start Nick 3. (grin) I’ll write something. It isn’t like I’m hurting for ideas.

I also wrote the base novel (Keeper of the Pronise) for a new series awhile back (February 2018). So I want to write more on that series too. Soon, I hope.

And I wrote a they-come-here SF back in November 2016 titled The Consensus that (according to my first reader) begs a sequel or two. So it isn’t like I don’t have things to write.

And it isn’t like I don’t have time. In fact, Time might be the only thing I have that I alone can prioritize.

Onward.
