The Journal, Monday, April 9

Hey Folks,

I hope to get started on my next novel soon. Probably another noir mystery. We’ll see what appeals to me.

Probably no writing today. An edit came in, though it’s a re-read so it won’t take more than two or three days. I don’t like doing re-reads, but if the writer insists, I’ll do it for half the price of the original edit. I don’t personally recommend revising an edited manuscript, but when I’m wearing my copyeditor hat, the customer is always right.

In the meantime, my recent camping experience proved I can walk (rugged terrain) three miles without harming my back too much. Walking out here on a country road should be a snap.

So I’ll head out for my first walk in a good while this morning shortly after dawn. My personal rule is I can walk if it’s 50+ with no wind or 60+ with wind.

A couple years ago, I got to the point that my regular short walk was 5-6 miles. My regular long walk was 12 miles, and my medium was around 8. I’ll stick with 3 for awhile to start. After that, we’ll see.

Oof. Today was 2.8 miles and it took a little over 50 minutes. I’m gonna back my short walk off to 2 miles until I get used to it. We went nearly twice that far hiking while we were camping, but we were stopping frequently and weren’t walking hard. So not quite the same thing.

I also worked on the website a little today. I created my own Patronage page for readers and writers. The rewards for the various levels of patronage are listed at http://harveystanbrough.com/be-a-patron/.

Well, I had another edit come in, a fairly lengthy one. I guess I’ll get to see whether I can edit part of the day and write part of the day. The first few days will be all editing and no writing so I can get a feel for it. So if you don’t hear from me for awhile, well, there y’go.

Back soon.
