Quote of the Day

“PG suggests that a more widely recognized term for deplatforming is political censorship. What punched PG’s deplatforming button was not the criticism of Mr. Peterson’s ideas and writings, but rather the verbal lobbying directed to [Penguin Random House] to pressure the company to cease publication of Mr. Jordan’s writings.” The Passive Guy

I’m posting today mostly to get “Of Interest” out to you, and mostly the first item in that section.

I hope you will read the article, and especially The Passive Guy’s addendum to the article.

It struck me that with the omission of one word (“who”) the first sentence in the original post reads like the first line of a Stephen King novel. And it would make an excellent epigraph for any 1984- or Fahrenheit 451-style dystopian novel:

“Jordan Peterson, the Canadian psychology professor and lobster-loving life coach … came to public attention after refusing to use the preferred pronouns of transgender people.” (Citation: The preceding quote is from an article written by Nathan Robinson, a person or per-it [my sister-in-law’s non gender term for ‘human biped’] at The Manchester Guardian. I have no way of knowing whether Nathan Robinson would prefer a particular pronoun him-, her-, them-, xe-, ze-, sie-, co-, ey- or it-self but I meant no offense with my omission of the same.)

This is not a political blog, so to avoid harming the sensibilities of any who believe they have the right to control how others think or what they believe or what particular words they use, I’ll stop now.

That there was a glitch in the novel occurred to me on Saturday night as I watched an episode of a science fantasy TV show. So on Sunday I searched for a particular word, repaired the glitch throughout the manuscript, and then did some other cycling. As of 10 a.m. on Sunday, I’d added only 1000 words to the novel. Given that, it was a relatively good writing day.

I’m always anxious to get back to the blank space and keep writing as the story unfolds. Still, the process-per-novel has to move at its own pace, so I’m doing my best to be patient. (grin)

Talk with you again soon.
