The Journal, Saturday, October 6

Hey Folks,

A lot of items in “Of Interest” today, some older just in case you missed them.

I have a new favorite quote, culled from Joe Hartlaub’s post at the Kill Zone blog:

“Grandparents and grandchildren have a special relationship, given that they have a common enemy.” (grin) Isn’t that wonderful?

The operation went well (Thursday), with a couple of post-op glitches, natch. But long story short, I’m on the mend. A few days of extreme caution so I don’t pull any wires loose and then a few weeks of sort-of caution as my body gets over the physical trauma. So I’ll be getting back to normal, slowly.

I feel uncomfortable and a bit dramatic using the word “trauma.” They made maybe a two-inch incision, removed a device, inserted another device, and attached 4 wires to my heart. Apparently they did that last part through a vein. How, I don’t have a clue.

So I’m experiencing a little discomfort. Actually, mild discomfort around the site of the incision. Thus far I’ve taken only a few extra-strength acetaminophen tablets, and that was more to help combat the swelling than to alleviate the “pain.”

But I see “trauma” as something traumatic, like having a body part ripped off. Now that would be trauma.

Still, I’m following directions, blah blah blah so I can get back to focusing on more important things. So no worries.

They’ll do a pacer check on Tuesday (in Tucson again, sigh) and then I have a follow-up with the cardio-plumber guy (he’ll meet me in Benson, about 10 miles away) on November 1. I hope that visit will reveal news about my heart function. I hope it’s on the rise.

But either way, it’s all good. If it isn’t on the rise (worst case) I’ll still do everything I’ve always done, but just a little more slowly. So as I say, it’s all good. (grin)

I probably won’t be writing fiction for a little while longer, and that’s fine. Stories are percolating in my head. Those that entertain me will find their way to the keyboard soon enough.

Talk with you again soon.
