The Journal, Wednesday, October 3

Hey Folks,

Some pretty good stuff in “Of Interest” today.

There won’t be a Journal tomorrow or probably the next day, so I wanted to get this one out.

In my absence, you might check on the websites from which I regularly post “Of Interest” topics:

I typically visit Dean’s site every morning at https://deanwesleysmith.com. I often scroll down also to read the comments.

I usually visit the Kill Zone blog at https://killzoneblog.com as well. Even some of their First Page Critiques are worth reading, but keep your salt shaker handy. (Tequila is optional.)

I also recommend stopping by Kris Rusch’s site at https://kriswrites.com unless you’re subscribed to everything she puts out. She occasionally puts out a blog post that is neither Free Fiction Monday nor Business Musings.

If you haven’t subscribed yet, you might also check Lee Lofland’s blog at https://www.leelofland.com/the-graveyard-shift-blog/. The guy posts every day, and most often it’s a meaty topic you can use in your writing.

And don’t be a genre snob. Even if you don’t write crime fiction, much that is included in crime fiction works in other genres as well.

Heinlein’s Rules aren’t for everybody, but to dismiss them out of hand without even looking at them because you don’t write SF is just silly. (If you haven’t seen them and would like to, click http://harveystanbrough.com/wp-content/uploads/2016/08/Heinleins-Business-Habits-Annotated.pdf. This should open a new window and automatically download a PDF document.)

You might want to check The Passive Voice at http://www.thepassivevoice.com/. Almost always some good stuff there.

Finally, you might stop by my Free Downloads page at http://harveystanbrough.com/downloads/ and see what’s available. Lots of good information there.

Talk with you again soon.
