The Journal, Thursday, June 14

Hey Folks,

Well, I think I’m taking off a few days.

I just had a new copyedit come in, so I’m going to work on that. In the meantime, D.R.E.A.D. can rest while I decide whether to shoot it or hook it up to a resuscitation machine.

When I return to it, probably I’ll backtrack to see whether I can find where it took a wrong turn. I’ve done that once already and didn’t see a place where it went wrong, so maybe I’ll have to set it aside for awhile and move on to something else. Hey, stuff happens.

I do have several other ideas to write so it isn’t like I’ll be out of a job. (grin)

I Need Reviews.

So I’m creating a Smashwords coupon for each of my major works of fiction. One for each novel, novella and short story collection.

In addition to being a major distributor, Smashwords is also an online bookstore.

But unlike the other online bookstores, once you purchase a book at Smashwords you can download it in ANY eformat you choose, including .mobi (Kindle), .epub (Nook and Apple) and .pdf.

The coupons are for 100% off, and I’m trading them for reviews.

The reviews should be honest, of course. The only thing I’ll ask is that you post your review at Smashwords and at least one other place of your choice (B&N, Amazon, GoodReads, etc.). Of course, if you’re so inclined, more places would be better for me. (grin)

Visit HarveyStanbrough.com, then click the tabs for Mystery Novels, Action-Adventure, SF or Western. Then email me at harveystanbrough@gmail.com with your selection(s). I’ll send you the coupon code(s) for the title(s) you select.

Then go to https://smashwords.com, find the title you want, and apply the coupon code during checkout. That’s all there is to it.

There is no limit on the number of works you can download, read and review. You may email me to request one title or several. I’ll send coupon codes for whatever you select.

No fiction writing today other than a couple of lines that occurred to me. I’ll get back to it in a few days. Of course, I’ll keep posting here as long as I have something of value to tell you.

See you soon.

  1. I tend to shy away from contests which require an entry fee. In the case of the “Golden Donut Short Story Contest”, there’s a 25$ entry fee.

But I like the idea of writing a story based on a photo, that’s fun. And their photo is nice.

    • Exactly, Céline. I don’t enter contests that require a fee either. But for those who do….

And you’re right. There’s no reason not to write a story based on the prompt, in this case a photo.

This morning, as I was finishing up gathering coupon codes and URLs for my longer works into a spreadsheet, I browsed all 300 or so titles I have on Smashwords. I was a little surprised at how many short stories I’ve written strictly as a result from prompts I received during one of DWS’ workshops.
