The Journal, Tuesday, September 11

Hey Folks,

I hope we all have a thoughtful day of concern for the horrendous events themselves, the lives lost, and the lives forever affected on both 9/11/2001 and 9/11/2012.

I had planned to hit the sack early last night, rise early this morning, and give myself plenty of time to write a few chapters.

Well, any plan is only as good as its execution. I stayed up an hour later than I expected, then experienced one of those on-again off-again awkward nights of sleep and rolled out late at 4.

So I did my usual thing of going to the Internet first to wake up. The priority today is the doc appointment. I’ll add to the novel, but probably not as much as I’d like. Not complaining, just reporting.

And I will post this Journal entry, probably this morning before we leave for Tucson.

I opened my writing ‘puter at the makeshift desk outside the east window of my office. I did that for two reasons.

One, my little girl jumped the gate on the fence three separate times while I was looking at the Internet. That despite the fact there were coyotes singing nearby. But I signed on to keep her safe, and I’ll do that even when it annoys her.

And two, I didn’t want to waste time going to the Hovel.

I wrote an opening for Chapter 9 (I write an opening for every chapter or major scene to ground the reader) and took off from there. Once it was flowing well, I came here to write this brief bit.

It’s only 7 a.m. and we have to leave at 9, so I decided to settle for one chapter so I can relax my way into the rest of the day. Around 1000 words in a little under an hour.

The novel is writing itself, flowing nicely, so I’ll eat breakfast, then post this and get ready to head out.

Talk with you again soon.
