Quote of the Day

“Simply put, adding information, such as a message or data, to a particle in one location will make the data appear at the other location: the essence of teleportation.” Dan Hurley quoting on the forthcoming quantum internet

Not a lot in today’s Journal. I’m posting today mostly for what’s in “Of Interest.”

I wrote a little on the short story yesterday, but (again) I forgot to get caught up in Dean’s Covers 101 class. I’ll attend to that today, then write more on the story.

This thing might turn out to be something longer than a short story. Maybe a novella. Maybe a series of novellas. (Like I need another series.) But at the moment I just don’t know, and it doesn’t really matter. I’m having fun writing it, and that’s what matters.

Thank you to all my patrons and first-readers, and readers of this Journal. You’re a special lot. Regardless of how much you give, you enable and encourage me to continue with this Journal. And oddly enough, most of you don’t even bother with collecting rewards for your generous donations.

Please take a moment to browse those rewards at https://hestanbrough.com/become-a-patron/ and let me know via email (harveystanbrough@gmail.com) if there’s anything you’d like to have. I’ll send it as soon as I see your email.

If you are not currently a patron, you might also look over the rewards and see whether anything interests you. There are four levels of patronage with rewards.

Finally, if you’d like to receive something from me that isn’t listed there, let me know. Chances are good I’ll add it.

An example of a Y gateA friend wrote to say she loves the American west but never got a chance to live here. She also wanted to see a photo of a Y gate.

In this photo of the one I put up a few days ago, the bottom of the Y extends to the left (east, three strands of barbed wire) from the t-post on the left.

The top of the Y splits at that t-post. One section of it (in regular field fencing) runs to the post on the far right to form the north opening (gate) and the other section runs to the white t-post, second from the far right, to form the south opening.

The tall t-post (second from the left) is a little over a foot inside the top of the Y. More barbed wire fencing extends to the west from that post all the way past my house.

The idea is that a large mammal (cow or horse) will poke his nose into the opening between the white t-post and the taller one, then realize s/he can’t bend well enough to make the turn and will back out. The US Forest Service often uses these.

Beyond the t-post on the left, you can see part of the wide path I cut to the well, which is just around the turn in the path to the left and out of the picture.

Oh, and the black wire you see at the top of the tall t-post leads from my modem in the house and into the Hovel so I have internet out there. (grin)

Talk with you again soon.
