Correction

In Numbers for the past couple of days, I reported writing 4,884,024 words since October 1.

C’mon, even I ain’t that fast. My finger stuck on the 8. The correct number was 484,024. The number is correct today.

A New Podcast

Okay, on Sunday afternoon (March 17), I’ll go Live from the Hovel at 1 p.m. Arizona time with the first of what I expect will be a weekly podcast. I expect each will last a half-hour or less.

You can join the podcast at https://www.youtube[dot]com/@HarveyStanbrough.

In that first one, I’ll update viewers on a few new developments and talk about some other stuff. I expect future shows will be of interest to writers and readers alike.

End Matter Revised

The big vendors other than Amazon (you all know who they are) have now stopped allowing URLs in the front or back matter or any other metadata of publications licensed through them.

I can only assume they’re frightened that StoneThread Publishing will steal absolutely ALL of their business or shatter their iron grip on pricing. Ridiculous.

This is one more reason to buy your fiction and nonfiction directly from your favorite authors. Censorship is ugly in ANY form.

I’m indignant, but I’m not stupid. As a prolific writer, I still have to deal with other vendors, so I’ve revised the end matter in my novel and short story templates to read as follows:

My “About the Author” information now reads

Harvey Stanbrough was born in New Mexico, seasoned in Texas and baked in Arizona. For a time, he wrote under five personas and several pseudonyms, but he takes a pill for that now and writes only under his own name. Mostly.

Harvey is an award-winning writer who follows Heinlein’s Rules avidly. He has written and published over 85 novels, 9 novellas, and over 230 short stories. He has also written 18 nonfiction books on writing, 8 of which are free to other writers. And he’s compiled and published 27 collections of short fiction and 5 critically acclaimed poetry collections.

These days, the vendors through which Harvey licenses his works do not allow URLs in the back matter. To see his other works, please key “StoneThread Publishing” or “Harvey Stanbrough” into your favorite search engine to find him.

Finally, for his best advice on writing, look for “Harvey Stanbrough’s (Almost) Daily Journal.”

I also removed the direct link to StoneThread Publishing from beneath the name in the copyright notice.

My “About StoneThread Publishing” publisher information now reads

StoneThread Publishing is a small independent publisher. We publish fiction across the genres, nonfiction books on writing, and poetry. Although we license our books through other vendors (who will not allow us even to put our own URL in this back matter) we also sell direct to readers. Please key “StoneThread Publishing” into your favorite search engine to find us.

This ebook is licensed for your personal enjoyment. Thank you for respecting the author’s work by not reselling it or giving it away. To share this book, please purchase an additional copy as a gift.

I also removed the hyperlink from the cover photo credit line under Credits.

I also updated my Disclaimers. They now read

1. This is a work of fiction, strictly a product of the author’s (my) imagination. It is the result of a parnership between me and the character(s) I accessed with my creative subconscious as I raced through the story with them, trying to keep up. Any opinions expressed by the character(s) are their own. I am only their recorder.

2. Any perceived resemblance-to, similarity-to, slights-of, or offenses-to any persons living or dead, and-or any events, groups, places, organizations, and so on are products of the reader’s imagination. Probably. In my world, intent still carries considerably more weight than perception.

3. Finally, in no part is this story the block-by-block, purloined construction of any sort of generative AI or even the artificial construct of any conscious, critical, human mind, including my own. What you read here is what actually happened there.

Finally, I added “A Heartfelt Note to Ebook Vendors, Editors, and Traditional Publishers” after the disclaimers:

We are not dependent on you. We owe you nothing. Further, by licensing our work through you, we are doing you a favor. Do you understand what writers would do if you did not exist?

We would write.

And do you understand what you would do if there were no writers to cheat?

“You want fries with that, Sir or Ma’am?”

If those poor little frightened vendors ever stop allowing the author name or publisher name to be displayed, I will stop licensing work through them. But I will not stop writing or publishing through StoneThread. When that day comes, I fully intend to face-plant on my laptop.

If you would like one of my templates as a way to set up your next writing project (simply type into the template and then “Save As” a different file name), email me at harveystanbrough@gmail.com.

Please feel free to use any of the above as a model for back matter your own works.

Talk with you again soon.

To Their Scattered Bodies Go! Disclaimer: I intended to read this to vet it, but I decided to write instead. According to one writer, it talks about using the five senses. Make up your own mind. I’ll only say be wary of the myths. Like I said, I haven’t read it.

Disclaimer: I am a prolific professional fiction writer. On this blog I teach Writing Into the Dark and adherence to Heinlein’s Rules. Unreasoning fear and the myths of writing will slow your progress as a writer or stop you cold. I will never teach the myths on this blog.
