The Journal, Friday, November 9

Hey Folks,

Tomorrow, November 10, will mark the 243rd anniversary of the dubious beginnings of the United States Marine Corps in a bar (Tun Tavern) in Philadelphia.

I will pass it, as I always do, with a piece of birthday cake that I will share in the collective consciousness of Marines past and present. Then I’ll do some writing.

Later in the day, I’ll enjoy a healthy shot of Who Hit John in a toast to my brothers and sisters in the Corps, and by extension to my other brothers and sisters-in-arms in all branches of the military.

I hope it will be a good day for you as well. Semper fi.

Friday. Sometimes I get lost in a week. I don’t realize what day it is. Every day is a potential writing day for me, so the calendar really holds no particular distinction.

Other than specific dates on which I have doctor appointments or when I know one of my sons will be visiting. Things like that.

But in my “normal” life, I have three days per week when the day isn’t my own. There’s Thursday, when my “lone” day ends at 1 p.m. That’s my half-day. It really has no bearing on my productivity, or not much, since my writing is usually wrapped up around that time anyway. Like yesterday.

Then there are Saturday and Sunday. I know when those occur mostly because Thursday warns me Saturday is coming, and the next day is Sunday.

So on those days in particular, I try to get up early and get as much writing done as I can before the day begins.

And that’s pretty much the whole of my schedule. Do you have a particular schedule you stick to or that you try to stick to?

I found a cool setting on my big monitor. I can set a “night light” that has a huge range of “heat” settings. I find I can use it to filter out a lot of the blue-light radiation from the screen. That enables me to look at the screen longer without my eyes getting fuzzy.

In the first session this morning I updated the reverse outline and cycled through what I wrote yesterday. Between that and the second session, I wrote around 1200 new words.

Back and forth a few times, Hovel to house, and by 10:30 I had over 3000 words on the day. It looks to be a very good day.

Well, not quite as good a day as I’d hoped. I hit a snag, but cleared it after some cycling.

Talk with you again soon.

Anthony DeCastro posted the first chapter of his novel North Country Girl on his website at https://tonydwritespulp.wordpress.com/. It was well worth the read, and it enticed me to buy his first novel, Everything Is Broken, which is available at Amazon and other booksellers.
